    What Our Customers Say

Real feedback from people who found the right chair for their needs.

    Clive Ross

Retired Occupational Therapist · Google Review

"As a retired Occupational Therapist I've had a great deal of experience assessing the seating needs of people with complex disabilities.

When I developed a painful back condition myself I went in search of a chair to meet my own needs, but drew a blank. Having tried numerous riser-recliners in mobility shops and furniture stores I'd pretty much resigned myself to continuing discomfort in my existing armchair. So thank goodness I happened upon The Comfort Workshop. It really lives up to its name!

The first chair that James recommended me to try at their well-stocked showroom felt instantly different. The upholstery was supportive but comfortable, and the dual motor allowed a great range of positioning to be obtained. I was especially in need of a comfortable 'tilt-in-space' position, without having to first lie flat which I found to be an issue with all chairs that I had tried elsewhere. The 'Contour' chair delivered exactly this position that I had been seeking.

James assisted me in tailoring the chair for my optimum comfort through recommendations regarding backrest and armrest type, and seating dimensions. At no time did I feel under any sales pressure. There was a vast range of fabrics from which to choose, and being prone to clumsiness I went for one that even ballpoint pen markings could be removed from with a damp cloth.

Throughout the assessment my wife (also a retired Occupational Therapist) was sat in a similar chair and she was so comfortable she decided she'd have one too!

I reckon purchase of two chairs for our personal use amounts to pretty comprehensive OT endorsement!"

    Common Questions

What is tilt-in-space and why does it matter for pressure care?

Tilt-in-space tilts the whole seat and back as one unit while keeping the hip and knee angle fixed. This redistributes body weight from the base of the spine across the back and thighs, helping to reduce pressure build-up during long periods of sitting.

What sizes does the Homecare riser recliner come in?

Petite, Standard, Standard Plus and Grande. We fit seat height, seat depth, seat width and back height to the person, rather than publishing a standard size chart.

Which fabrics are suitable for infection control?

Dartex and vinyl are both waterproof, stain resistant, antimicrobial and antifungal. Dartex is breathable and rated to 300,000 Martindale rubs with Crib 6 flame retardancy; vinyl is rated to 1,000,000 rubs with Crib 5. Both are vegan and easy to clean.

How is the Homecare chair designed for hygiene and cleaning?

No velcro is used anywhere on the chair, and all cushions are removable using stainless steel press studs, so covers can be taken off and surfaces cleaned thoroughly. Combined with waterproof antimicrobial fabrics, this supports strict infection control in care environments.

Can the Homecare chair be used without mains power?

Yes. An optional rechargeable lithium battery lets the chair operate without trailing power cables, which improves safety and makes it easier to move the chair between areas in a care setting.

What postural support options are available?

You can choose a Waterfall, Lateral or Plain back depending on the level of trunk support needed, and a pressure relief seat rated for low, medium or high risk. The contoured back and adjustable positioning support spinal alignment and pelvic stability during prolonged sitting.
